"Cracking Art and young artists" is on display at the Museo Omero from 4 June to 31 August 2022.
This exhibition is part of the ninth Biennale Arteinsieme - culture and cultures without barriers, which has long provided an ideal environment for creativity, inclusion and the promotion of young artists.
Sculptures by the Cracking Art collective are shown alongside works which have reached the finals of the Figurative Arts and Anime Animali competitions for Licei artistici, Accademie di Belle Arti as well as primary and junior secondary schools.
The students were asked to create multisensory works after studying the poetics of the Cracking Art movement.
When choosing the finalists, the selection committee looked for works incorporating the accessibility criteria for non-sighted visitors: tactile perception, choice of materials and aesthetic value.
Cracking Art
Cracking Art is a group of artists known all over the world for their urban installations featuring large-scale coloured animals made of recycled and recyclable plastic.
An operation that makes us all address new realities.
The movement was born in 1993 with the aim of changing the history of art through the artists’ strong social and environmental commitment which, combined with an innovative use of plastic materials, evokes the close relationship between nature and artificial reality.
The concept of regeneration has animated the movement’s art from the outset.
Plastic, the movement’s material of choice, is virtually eternal as it can be shredded and remodelled into other sculptures.
Cracking is the process that transforms crude oil into naphtha, which is the basis of many synthetic products, including plastics.
Cracking is the procedure that transforms the natural into the artificial, the organic into the synthetic. A process that confronts us all with new realities.
Cracking is the laceration in contemporary man, who lurches between a primary naturalness and an increasingly artificial future."
