“The Museum today is: accessible, inclusive and promotes diversity and sustainability”.
This definition came from ICOM (the International Council of Museums) which, at Prague Assembly the end of August 2022, reconfirmed the centrality of the service to the community.
These qualities are very similar to the foundational principles and objectives of the Museo Tattile Statale Omero. It was therefore obligatory to dedicate this issue (no. 22, January 2023) to reflections and comments on this theme, and we welcome three particularly representative personalities.
Firstly, Aldo Grassini, president of the Museo Omero, who underlines the role of promotion of diversity; next, Adele Maresca Compagna, vice-president of ICOM Italia, who focuses on the expansion and strengthening of the cultural role of museums; finally, Paolo Giulierini, director of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, who describes the positive experience already acquired.
The last article is by Germana Barone, from the University of Catania, who announces that, within a few years, it will be possible to create entirely new museum experiences from geopolymers. These materials are suitable for creating artefacts which are very similar to the original works.
