WINTER DAY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It snows, but it\u2019s sleet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

indefinite, which only in places<\/p>\n\n\n\n

whitens these low<\/p>\n\n\n\n

hills, the sea rims them<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and hems them with its grey blue,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

now on the Cesane<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the roe deer run<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in the luminous fields,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the wolf sinks<\/p>\n\n\n\n

his slender paws<\/p>\n\n\n\n

into the dense whiteness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the sumacs stand bowed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

beneath the great weight,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

silver the fir<\/p>\n\n\n\n

high in the sky,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the blue-eyed forebear<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is at the spring<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and with her bare hand<\/p>\n\n\n\n

cracks the ice,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

fills the pitcher with water<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the coldest,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

then slowly makes her way<\/p>\n\n\n\n

towards the house
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE SOUL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had never understood<\/p>\n\n\n\n

where the soul comes from among the thorns<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but the soul is small, made of air,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
