14 May - 31 August 2011
Museo Tattile Statale Omero, Ancona.
Se usciamo a un sentiero ignoto (o del viaggiar con Walter Valentini) - If we come out from an unknown path (or travelling with Walter Valentini)
In collaboration with the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività culturali.
Inauguration of the tactile exhibition dedicated to Walter Valentini. Five of his original works are on show at the Museo Omero in a room specially equipped with aids for the visually handicapped. Two of these works, splendid polychrome terracotta plaques entitled "Di-segno" (on the left) and "Superficie" (on the right), have been donated to the Museo Omero by the artist and will enrich the contemporary sculpture collection. Sharing the room will be ten works by students from the Licei Artistici of the Marches Region, created using Valentini’s own expressive language.
The initiative is part of the 4th edition of the "Arte Insieme - culture and barrier-free cultures" project where the internationally famous engraver, painter and sculptor is this year's featured artist.
Works on show by Walter Valentini
- Di-Segno (fireclay relief - 58 x 39 x 1,5 cm)
- Superficie (fireclay relief - 63 x 41 x 2 cm)
- Porta d'oro (bronze sculpture - 35 x 22 x 12 cm)
- Arco del cielo (bronze sculpture - 40 x 16,5 x 19 cm)
- Astro della sera (bronze sculpture - 40 x 46 x 27 cm)
The principal theme of this Notte dei Musei is encountering the other, in the sense of a voyage of discovery of everything that doesn't seem to fit the "normal" parameters of our everyday experience - diversity, not belonging to a precise cultural sphere ... but "the other" is also to be understood as the dark side of our most recondite self.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 14 May at 9.30 pm with a buffet, a specially designed setting and creative workshops on the theme of the journey and the encounter, where the participants can create their own personal objects following the grammatical rhythms of Walter Valentini’s specific expressive language.
Helping with the initiative are volunteers from the Servizio Civile Nazionale. Booking suggested.
Exhibition curator and designer: Massimo Di Matteo, architect.
The exhibition is provided with special aids for non- and partially-sighted visitors. Guided visits and workshops can be booked. Free admission.
