From 21 March to 13 December 2025.
Nova Gorica, Mercator Center.

On Friday, 21 March, at 5:00 PM, the Mercator Center in Nova Gorica - Gorizia will host the inauguration of "The Art Beyond the Visible", the first tactile gallery in Slovenia.

The gallery will remain open until 13 December, 2025, and is one of the initiatives featured in the GO! 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia, European Capital of Culture 2025 program.

The project, launched in June 2023, brings together museums, artists, and various institutions, including Museo Omero, which has loaned eight works from its collection. Last year, Museo Omero also hosted a training session for professionals from the Gorizia Museum (Goriški muzej), representatives of the Intermunicipal Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Nova Gorica, and other partners.

The works on loan from Museo Omero include a volumetric model of the Parthenon and seven plaster casts: Head of the Pseudo-Seneca, Head of Damoxenos, Head of a Putto, Portrait of Michelangelo, Lady with a Bunch of Flowers, Virgin of Bruges, and Bas-relief from the Abbey of Nonantola featuring the Nativity scene.

A multisensory and inclusive experience

"The Art Beyond the Visible" is a space where art becomes accessible to everyone, allowing visitors to explore the works not only visually but also through touch.

The gallery is divided into two sections:

  • The first, "The Existing World", is dedicated to good national and international museum practices and also hosts works from the Omero Museum.
  • The second, "The Emerging World", focuses on accessibility and interaction between artists and visitors, featuring works by 17 Italian and Croatian artists, specially adapted to be perceived not only visually but also through touch.

The project has also received support from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of Ljubljana, two Italian high schools, the Academy of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica, and international partners such as the University of San José (USA), the Faculty of Education in Maribor, and the Faculty of Education at the University of Primorska in Koper.
