Exhibition “Artifices: The Creators of Art”

statua romana di matrona femminile con titolo mostra Artifices

21 November 2025 – 12 April 2026. Opening on 21 November at 5:00 pm.
Bolzano, Centro Trevi–TreviLab, Via Cappuccini 28 a.

The State Tactile Museo Omero is taking part in the exhibition “Artifices: The Creators of Art” (“Artifices: i creatori dell'arte")- by lending its tactile reproduction of the Discobolus, Lancellotti type.

Curated and organised in collaboration with the Museo Nazionale Romano, the exhibition is part of the multi-year project Stories of Art with the Great Museums, promoted by the Department of Italian Culture of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

The Discobolus from the Museo Omero

In the foyer of the Centro Trevi–TreviLab, visitors will find the tactile reproduction of the Discobolus from the Museo Omero.
This cast, faithfully reproducing the sculpture preserved in the Vatican Museums, engages in an ideal dialogue with the Lancellotti copy housed at Palazzo Massimo, one of the venues of the Museo Nazionale Romano.

The work from the Museo Omero is part of the exhibition’s accessible pathway, which includes several supports for visitors with visual and hearing disabilities: free audio guide, videos in Italian Sign Language (LIS), the presence of an access mediator, and talks dedicated to accessibility.

The tactile reproduction thus becomes a central element of the exhibition experience, designed to be understood through touch as well.

The exhibition

“Artifices: The Creators of Art” explores the origins and development of artistic production in Rome, from the Republican period to the end of the Empire.
The exhibition focuses on the workshops and artisans who created statues, mosaics, frescoes, everyday objects and luxury goods.

A special focus is dedicated to the Late Antique workshops of the Crypta Balbi and to the theme of copying in the Roman world.

For the first time, the basement level of the Centro Trevi–TreviLab is also included in the exhibition path. It hosts a selection of sculptures from a Late Republican Roman villa, presented in a layout that evokes the architecture of an aristocratic residence.

The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of parallel events: lectures, guided tours, and activities for schools and families, organised by the Department of Culture.
