Award Ceremony
Today, at 11:30 a.m., in the Palazzo del Governo, headquarters of the Prefecture of Ancona, the award ceremony was held for the honors of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, conferred by decree of the President of the Republic last June 2nd. The honors were presented by the new Prefect, Maurizio Valiante, to citizens of this province who have distinguished themselves for exceptional moral, professional, and cultural merits.
Among the honorees was our President, Aldo Grassini, recognized for his extraordinary life achievements and his current role as Director of the Omero State Tactile Museum.
Also present at the ceremony was the Rector of the Marche Polytechnic University, Prof. Gian Luca Gregori.
Order of Merit of the Italian Republic
The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic was established by Law No. 178 of March 3, 1951 (Official Gazette No. 73 of March 30, 1951). It is the foremost among national Orders and is intended to "reward merits acquired in service to the Nation in the fields of literature, arts, economy, public office, and activities carried out for social, philanthropic, and humanitarian purposes, as well as for long and distinguished service in civil and military careers."
The President of the Republic serves as the Head of the Order.
